About this play
When your baby gleefully drops a spoon from the high chair again and again, they are not being naughty — they are running a physics experiment. This 'trajectory schema' teaches gravity, cause and effect, and object permanence (the thing still exists on the floor). Turning it into a game, rather than a battle, supports both their cognition and your patience.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Tie a few safe toys to the high-chair with short ribbon.
- Let them drop and haul the toy back, narrating each fall.
- Say 'down it goes!' to label the action.
