About this play
Babies explore the world through their senses, and touch is one of the earliest and richest. Offering a variety of safe textures — a silky scarf, a knobbly teether, a crinkly cloth, a soft brush — gives the developing brain a flood of new sensory information. Naming each sensation ('soft', 'bumpy', 'cool') as your baby grasps and mouths the object pairs language with experience and builds the fine-motor act of holding.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Gather a few safe items with different textures.
- Let baby grasp, stroke, and mouth each one.
- Name the feeling out loud as they explore.
