About this play
Between four and six months babies discover the delightful noises their lips and tongue can make — blowing raspberries, squealing, and babbling. Joining in and copying these sounds turns noise-making into a game and reinforces the back-and-forth of communication. The vocal play also strengthens the mouth muscles needed for eating and, eventually, speech.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Blow a raspberry and wait for baby to try.
- Copy every squeal and coo they offer.
- Take turns, leaving gaps for them to 'answer'.
