About this play
The pincer grasp — picking up a small object between thumb and forefinger — is a fine-motor milestone that opens the door to self-feeding, writing, and countless everyday tasks. Offering soft, pea-sized pieces of safe finger food (always supervised) gives your baby irresistible motivation to practise this precise pinch dozens of times a meal.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Place a few soft, pea-sized food pieces on the tray.
- Let baby pick them up themselves — don't rush in.
- Model the pinch with your own thumb and finger.
