About this adventure
A shallow paddling pool or a calm, safe stream edge is an ideal first water experience. Sitting in a few centimetres of water, feeling the coolness, and splashing with hands builds sensory tolerance, core balance, and confidence. For older babies, pouring water from a cup and watching it flow introduces early concepts of volume and gravity.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Choose a spot with clean, shallow, slow-moving or still water.
- Sit with baby in the water, supporting them at all times.
- Bring a plastic cup for pouring and splashing games.
