Romani (Gypsy) music is one of the most influential musical traditions in the world, shaping flamenco, jazz manouche, Hungarian csárdás, and Balkan brass bands. Romani musicians — who migrated from northwest India to Europe over a thousand years ago — became celebrated performers across the continent, known for expressive improvisation, ornamentation, and fire. Gypsy jazz, pioneered by guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1930s Paris, fused Romani style with American swing. The fiesta style heard here draws on Eastern European Romani tradition: wild, celebratory, rhythmically complex, and full of life.
