About this music
Bossa nova ('new trend' in Portuguese) emerged in late-1950s Rio de Janeiro, fusing the harmony of cool American jazz with the rhythm of Brazilian samba. João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and singer Astrud Gilberto introduced it to the world — their song The Girl from Ipanema (1964) became one of the most recorded songs in history. Bossa nova is intimate, unhurried, and warm — its gentle guitar patterns and soft syncopation create a relaxed groove that is perfect for outdoor play, afternoon rest, or summer days with a baby.
