About this play
Before they walk, babies 'cruise' — stepping sideways while holding onto furniture. Arranging stable, sturdy furniture in a loose course, with a tempting toy at the far end, encourages your baby to pull up and side-step from one support to the next. This builds the leg strength, balance, and confidence needed for those first independent steps.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Set sturdy furniture close enough to step between.
- Place a favourite toy a short cruise away.
- Stay close to spot them and cheer each step.
