About this play
Around six to nine months babbling becomes more speech-like, with repeated consonants such as 'ba-ba' and 'da-da'. Treating these babbles as real conversation โ replying, naming things, and pausing for their turn โ shows your baby that talking is a two-way exchange and accelerates vocabulary growth. Saying their name often also helps them learn to respond to it.
How to do it (Step by step)
- Repeat the consonant sounds baby makes back to them.
- Add a real word: they say 'ba', you say 'ball!'.
- Call their name and wait for them to look.
